I’m so excited to share with you songs from the greatest sermon ever preached: The Sermon on the Mount.
They are the words of the Lord Jesus Christ about life in his kingdom, what it means to be his disciple and they are piercing, life altering words for those who believe.
At the end of the Sermon on the Mount Jesus makes a promise.
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25)
He then goes on to tell us why it matters if we’re like that wise man:
25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25)
We have that same promise of lasting stability in life today!
Jesus also issued a warning.
Christ says if we hear his words and don’t do them…we’re foolish and when the storm comes, we’ll see everything we’ve built dissolve. He said:
26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” Matthew 7:24-29)
As with the promise, that’s a warning to us today as well.
So, as a first step, let’s give ourselves to hearing Christ’s words.
To learning them. To loving them. To doing them.
